Measure the space—and the route
Measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom. Record width, height and depth, including trim, baseboards and nearby counters. Then measure every doorway, stair, turn and railing between the entrance and kitchen.

Bring photos of the space and every tight turn on the delivery path. The right fit starts before the kitchen.
Choose the layout around daily use
French door
Strong fresh-food access and wide shelving. Compare freezer organization and make sure both doors can open comfortably.
Side-by-side
Narrower door swing and easy access to both sections. Interior width can limit large trays and wide items.
Top-freezer or bottom-freezer
Often simpler and value-focused. Decide whether you prefer everyday fresh food or frozen food at eye level.
Counter-depth is about appearance, not one exact depth
Cabinet, door and handle depth vary. Review the complete dimensional drawing rather than relying on the label alone.
Ask about ownership—not just features
- Who provides qualified local service?
- Are common parts reasonably available?
- What does the warranty cover?
- What is included in delivery, installation and haul-away?
Refrigerator questions
What size refrigerator should I buy?
Buy the capacity that fits your opening and food habits without crowding the kitchen or blocking full door and drawer movement.
Is a through-the-door ice dispenser worth it?
It is convenient, but it adds components and uses door space. Decide whether convenience outweighs added complexity for your household.
